How to Choose a Domain Name

Let's define first what a domain name is. A domain name is a combination of letters and numbers that identify a specific website or network on the Internet. Simply put - a domain name is the name of your website.

Examples of domain names are www.cnn.com or www.google.com

You can see that the domain names specified as an example are just two of the most popular domains in the online world today. If you notice, the names are very easy to remember, not too long, not too short and has a certain "splash."

Now if you want to come up with your very own domain name, here are some of the basic tips you may want to consider:

1. Your domain name should be descriptive. Descriptive meaning that the name should coincide with the products or services that your website is offering or should coincide with what your website or business is all about.

2. Your domain name should be easy to remember. Memory recall plays a very crucial role here especially for people who tend to visit a lot of websites in a day.

3. Your domain name should be short, if possible. It is easier to remember if the domain name is shorter, not to mention it is easier to type. Here's a handy tip: try to limit your domain name to 30 characters.

4. Your domain name should be easy to pronounce. Unless you want to try the skills of people who like tongue twisters, keep your domain name easy to spell and easy to pronounce.

5. Your domain name should be registered the soonest time possible. Once you have thought of a really cool domain name that meets the first four criteria, register it before someone else does. Do not let anybody steal your idea!
