A free domain name. Hmmmm. Why? Just because you cannot shell out eight bucks for paid registration? If you are serious about making money online, free domains shall bring you down. Let me explain.

Let us say, I sell candles online. I get myself a free domain that ultimately ends up looking like : scentedcandlestore.myfreebusinesshosting.com. Wow. A really nice name to remember, isn't it? I can just picture people sitting to write down the name of your domain to visit your website.

I feel like laughing when I see people scampering for anything that is free - even something like domain names. Let me explain further.

A free domain name has almost no value to a customer, other businesses or even search engines unless you normally rant about yourself or how good your mother's cookies are.

Search engines like Google look down upon free domains since they feel a business can never 'be serious' if they are registered under cheap domain names or free domain names. These domains hardly, or never get ranked. It's not just sales talk, I am stating this from experience.

Go to Google right now, look up ANY word. ANY. Out of 20 words that you search for, how many times do you see a free domain name showing up in the top 10 listings?

The reason why free or cheap domain names are looked down upon is simply because people register it to either make a quick buck and disappear, just rant or simply run something illegal since it's free anyway! So who cares?

If you are genuinely serious about doing good business online, forget the word 'free'. Go ahead register yourself a good domain name and start your business. Through time, your business will gain popularity and visitors will throng to your site if there's material good enough in it. Once you have paid for your domain, you will notice yourself working towards making that domain a better business than simply ranting on a free one that nobody really cares about unless your customers are your own family and friends.

Nothing that is free, is ultimately worth it. With domains it's just the same thing.
